Issue 001 · Oakland, CA · Est. 2026 Now booking · First clients welcome

Honest websites,
made by hand,
shipped by Friday.

A two-person studio in Oakland, building beautiful, custom sites for small businesses. We don’t use templates. We don’t drag our feet. We don’t pretend a CMS will fix your homepage.

Custom-built · Mobile-first · SEO included · No templates · Real photography · Real copy · Plain-English contracts ·
§ 01
— What we build

Three kinds of sites,
done well.

Most small businesses don’t need a re-platform. They need a site that loads fast, says the right thing, and doesn’t break on a phone.

— 01 / Marketing

The storefront.

A 4–8 page site that earns trust and books appointments. Real copy, real photography, search-ready out of the box.

  • Pages 4–8
  • Timeline 3–4 wk
  • Mobile-first always
— 02 / Service

The booking.

A site that converts. Online bookings, payments, automated reminders, and a CMS your team can actually use.

  • Pages 6–12
  • Timeline 4–6 wk
  • CMS included
— 03 / Commerce

The shopfront.

Shopify done right. Custom theme, fast checkout, abandoned-cart flows, and analytics that don’t lie to you.

  • Products 10–500
  • Timeline 5–7 wk
  • Analytics real
§ 02
— How we work

Four weeks, four conversations.

No agency theater. No 60-page proposals. We talk on Monday, ship by month-end, and you own everything when we’re done.

Week 01Mon–Fri

Listen & plan.

One 90-minute call. We learn your business, your customers, and what makes you not the competition. You get a one-page brief.

Week 02Mon–Fri

Write & shape.

Real copy, real wireframes, real photography direction. We send you the site as a written document before any pixel is pushed.

Week 03Mon–Fri

Design & build.

Hand-built, mobile-first, hand-coded. You see progress every Friday. No surprises, no big reveals at the end.

Week 04Mon–Fri

Ship & own it.

We launch on Friday. You get the keys, the source, the analytics, and a 30-minute call to show you how to update it yourself.

§ 03
— Sample treatments

The visual language.

A small studio just opening its doors. The case studies are still in the kiln; until they’re ready, here’s the design vocabulary we work in.

— Marketing site ● Sample

The storefront

For a neighborhood business that wants a homepage people actually read. Tight type, real copy, fast on a phone.

— Service site ● Sample

The booking

For a service practice that wants the schedule full. Online intake, calendar sync, payments, and a tone that puts people at ease.

— Commerce site ● Sample

The shopfront

For a maker with a small inventory and a clear point of view. Custom Shopify, real product photography, no theme clutter.

— The studio ● Year one

First clients welcome

Booking calendars open. If you’ve been putting off a real website for the third year running, this is your sign.

Year one

Most small-business websites fail in the same boring ways. We started byteberry because we’d rather make ten honest sites that load in a second than fifty bloated ones that don’t.

§ 06
— Common questions

You’re probably wondering.

A few things that come up in every first call.

01

Do I own the website when we’re done?

Yes. You own the code, the content, the domain, the hosting account, the analytics: everything. We don’t lock you in.

02

What if I need changes after launch?

You get 30–90 days of free tweaks depending on tier. After that, we offer a small monthly retainer or hourly work. No pressure.

03

Do you write the copy too?

Yes, and we’d really prefer to. Most small-business websites fail because the writing is bad, not because the design is.

04

What CMS do you use?

Sanity for marketing sites, Shopify for commerce. Both let you change text and images without writing code.
