byteberry / process · how we work Issue 001 · April 2026

Four weeks.
Four conversations.

A small business shouldn’t need a 12-week engagement, a Gantt chart, or a project manager to get a website. We’ve stripped the process down to four weeks of focused work: one conversation per week, one shipping milestone per week, and a launched site at the end.

01 — Week one

Listen, then plan.

One 90-minute call on Monday morning. You tell us about your business, your customers, what’s working, and what’s haunting you. We listen more than we talk.

— Friday deliverable
  • One-page strategic brief
  • Sitemap (4–8 pages)
  • Tone & voice statement
  • Fixed quote & signed scope
02 — Week two

Write before you design.

We write every word of the site as a Google Doc, send it to you on Wednesday, and finish wireframes by Friday. You approve the writing before any pixel gets pushed.

— Friday deliverable
  • Full copy doc, page by page
  • Mobile + desktop wireframes
  • Photography shot list
  • One round of revisions included
03 — Week three

Hand-coded, hand-built.

Every site is built from scratch: no themes, no page builders, no plugins. You see a working URL on Monday, get a Friday demo, and watch the thing come to life in a real browser.

— Friday deliverable
  • Working staging URL
  • Mobile-first responsive build
  • CMS configured (Sanity / Shopify)
  • Accessibility audit (AA)
04 — Week four

Ship it. Then own it.

Friday morning: we launch. Friday afternoon: we hand you the keys. Domain, hosting, source code, analytics, CMS logins; plus a 30-minute walkthrough so you can update text and images without us.

— Friday deliverable
  • Live site, on your domain
  • Source code (you own it)
  • Analytics & SEO setup
  • 30-min editor walkthrough
§ 02
— Working principles

How we actually
make decisions.

Six commitments that hold the process together. Steal them if they’re useful.

— 01

Words first.

Design is what you do when you know what to say. We won’t open a design tool until the writing is done and approved.

— 02

Friday is the deadline.

Every week has a tangible Friday deliverable. If we miss it, you stop paying. The structure is what keeps us honest, not a track record we ask you to take on faith.

— 03

Build it from scratch.

No themes, page builders, or 47 plugins. Hand-coded HTML, CSS, and a thin CMS. Faster than your competitors’ Wix.

— 04

You own everything.

Domain, hosting, source code, analytics, CMS: in your accounts, on day one. We’re not a dependency.

— 05

Mobile first, always.

Most of your visitors are on a phone. We design for them first; the desktop is the bonus, not the brief.

— 06

One round of revisions.

Every stage gets one full round. Beyond that, we charge hourly. It keeps everyone honest about what matters.

Things we don’t do.

×

Six-month engagements

If your site can’t ship in six weeks, your scope is wrong, not your timeline.

×

Stock photography

If you can’t afford a half-day photographer, we’ll point you to one who’ll trade for product.

×

Mood-board theater

No 30-page Pinterest decks. Your brief and your competitors’ sites are enough to get going.

×

Mandatory retainers

You don’t need us after launch. If you do, we’re an email away, by the hour.

×

WordPress & 47 plugins

The reason your old site is slow. We use modern static sites with a thin headless CMS.

×

NDA-then-pitch

If your idea only works with secrecy, it probably doesn’t work. Let’s just talk.

Sound like the way
you’d want to work?
